... and not so GLAD News - BEWARE OF FUNDRAISING SCAMS!

Regrettably, GLAD Alliance must again notify its members and supporters of a fundraising scam that we believe is being perpetrated in the name of GLAD Alliance and/or its members. In the current version of the scam, a person calls a Disciples church or regional office posing as a GLAD member whose name may be familiar to the church or office requesting that money be sent to the caller, either for the caller’s personal benefit or for the benefit of GLAD Alliance. It appears that the caller may be obtaining names of GLAD Alliance members from names that appear on our website or in Crossbeams. The caller may call collect requesting that the church or office pay for the long distance charges.

GLAD Alliance occasionally solicits contributions by telephone, especially through calls reminding members of their membership expiration. However, it is our practice to request that contributions be sent to our post office box – P. O. Box 44400, Indianapolis, IN 46244. We recommend that you send all contributions to our post office box. In addition, contributions may be made online by credit card at www.gladalliance.org. (The service provider charges GLAD Alliance a service fee equal to 3% of contributions.)

We will leave to your discretion whether to report scams to local law enforcement authorities. Because GLAD Alliance is a volunteer organization and is generally not physically present in most communities other than through individual members and supporters, we are not able to take on the responsibility for making these reports to law enforcement agencies. More importantly, if you experience one of these scams, you have the facts necessary to make the report. However, so that we may track these scams and keep members, supporters and our O&A Ministries advised, please contact Randy Palmer, Development and Finance Team Leader, with information you may have regarding these scams at RPalmer@gladalliance.org.
